#taylor214 #taylortonewoods #tonewoodcomparison
How much influence do tonewoods have on an acoustic guitar's sound? Direct comparisons can be difficult to make, due to other components' influence on the sound. Fortunately, we recently received some Taylor 214ce Deluxes that made the comparison much easier - all three models have an ebony fretboard and Sitka spruce top, but one has rosewood back and sides (standard), one has ovangkol back and sides, and a third with black limba back and sides.
Jeremy plays identical strumming patterns and fingerstyle licks on all three, consistently recorded with Rode NT-5 mics in an X/Y configuration. The tonal differences were pretty surprising to us. Take a listen and see how you think they stack up, and let us know in the comments!
