LVEMP II is a regional project aiming to address the social, economic and environmental impacts of environment degradation in the Lake Victoria Basin (LVB)-targeting all those who live in, and depend on the natural resources of LVB: fishers, fish traders, farmers and communities living in targeted degraded watersheds, among others.
It is implemented by five Partner States of the East African Community (EAC) namely Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda with funds from The World Bank. In Rwanda, the project is implemented by Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA).
Since December 2011, LVEMP II worked to protect rivers, wetlands, hillside areas and to improve the livelihoods of communities in 15 priority Districts across Rwanda. It also invested in studies aimed at developing plans, designs and infrastructures for proper environment and natural resources management, sanitation, and pollution control, among others.
This film is a real-life summary of what the project has achieved in Rwanda over the past five years in the areas of watershed management, resource efficiency and cleaner production as well as livelihoods improvement. It compiles real-life experiences and testimonies from the project staff, local leaders, communities and other stakeholders who worked with and for the Project during its implementation period. It captures the situation on ground- highlighting some of the best practices and achievements of LVEMP II in five years.
