Southern Sky was directed by legendary cult filmmaker John Micheal McCarthy and filmed in various locations in Tupelo, MS and Memphis, TN. John and Mike were both born and raised in Tupelo and cut their artistic teeth in underground Memphis. Mike offers his Director's comments below:
"Hello, This is JMM from Memphis! My Movies are for the Incredible Shrinking Middle Class that keeps evolving after Punk, after the Death of Elvis, after the Underground, My Comics are for the two most beautiful men born on Earth (and his twin is born dead). My Rock and Roll is 'Something Alien In The Park'. I am an Escapism Artist. I am Many Last Names. I am JMM, the Redneck with a Thousand Faces, The Man Without A Drive-In. Hope you dig my John Murry video.
John said he met me when he was a Memphis teen-ager. He drunkenly staggered into the business where I worked and I told him "to get the fuck out". Well now he's come back, this time to haunt me. John Murry the artist has chosen me to write and direct his new video "Southern Sky" and so I do this, I suppose, as a way of apology to him. John and I have the same initials (JMM), we both hail from Tupelo, we are both adopted children, and our mothers (individually) attended the 1956 Homecoming Show in Tupelo when Elvis played. Murry's wife insisted I use starlets in the video but other than that, I had free reign, and what you are watching is the "directors cut". If you don't like that, then you need "to get the fuck out."

Director Bio:
Mike McCarthy combines arcane rock-and-roll trivia, and B-Movie myths to craft his uniquely southern take on post-modern America. He is alternately dubbed "the godfather of independent cinema" and "an exploitation auteur". McCarthy has created a pseudo-futuristic world that renders hippie-versus-rocker battles (THE SORE LOSERS) and saucy burlesque dancers (BROAD DAYLIGHT) in day-glo colored scenes inspired by the pages of a circa-1950's comic book. An integral part of the Memphis underground, McCarthy is revered as a cult hero in Europe and Japan. His newest full-length feature, CIGARETTE GIRL, which premiered in Australia in July 2009, segregates nicotine addicts in a glamorous social commentary populated with babes and bad boys galore. ---- Andria Lisle in Memphis Spoon
