Easter Monday 1989, Boro and Everton draw 3-3 at Ayresome Park in an end to end match in which Gary Gill had the game of his life. Heaven knows what Gilly had for his breakfast that day...(parmos hadn't been invented yet) but rumour has it that on this fine sunny day Gilly rose early, ran a marathon in under an hour, shot 20 under par (including several hole-in-ones) at Middlesbrough Municipal Golf Course and brought peace to Grove Hill before arriving at Ayresome Park to prepare for the game. After breaking every Carling Opta stat (before THEY'D been invented) record during the game , he showered, got changed and went straight to Club Havana and bought everyones drinks all night before copping off with both Michaela Strachan and Pete Waterman. The old codgers would now have to keep quiet about so-called "Mannions Match". This would now go down in Boro folklore as "Gillys Game"
