The Bureau of Land Management is tasked with managing the population of wild horses and burros living on public lands. Approximately 40,000 equines that have been rounded up by the BLM are kept in holding corrals. In order to get more mustangs in suitable homes, the horses need to be trained. The Extreme Mustang Makeover pairs trainers with wild horses in a competition with the aim of getting more mustangs out of holding and into adoptive homes. Kentucky Life followed four trainers on their journey through the 2018 Extreme Mustang Makeover at the Kentucky Horse Park.
