You are trying to get airline status, but you don't know if you should do it or which airline you would even go with. Airline status is fun, but if you fly multiple airlines then it probably would be more worth it to get a cobranded card from an airline, which they pretty much all offer. Still though, you want status by flying so which airline should you get status with?

Starting out with Southwest because I just fly them the most and I am oh so close to getting airline status with them. Southwest you need 25 one way flights or 25,000 tier qualifying. Tier qualifying points are the points you see when you book a southwest flight and change based on whichever ticket you purchased. At the business select level you would need to spend $2083 to earn all the points while at wanna get away you need to spend $4166 because business select is 12 points/dollar while wanna get away is 6 points per dollar. You can also earn 15,000 tier qualify points by using a southwest brand credit card. You earn 1,500 tier qualifying points for every $10,000 you spend.
Delta Medallion has silver, gold, platinum, and diamond, but with the American Express delta skymiles platinum card you can sort of earn some benefits of airline status. You can get main cabin 1 priority boarding and first free checked bag free, which is sort of like having silver already. Just a little bit of a sooner boarding. You can also earn 60,000 medallion qualifying miles after you spend $30,000 in purchase on your card. Well really its 15,000 miles after spending $30,000, but four times a year so $120,000 for $60,000 miles. That would only put you on the gold status level, which has a lower level of 50,000 MQMs. Silver is at 25,000m platinum is 75,000 and Diamond is 125,000. To reach minimum status you would need to spend $3,000 to reach silver. They have medallion qualifying dollars and that would be at $3,000.
Moving onto American Airlines, which is called AAadvantage. We have gold, platinum, platinum pro, and executive platinum. You an either earn their status through elite qualifying dollars and miles or elite qualifying segments. For the base level, gold you would need $3,000 dollars and 30,000 miles or 30 elite qualifying segments. To put that in perspective you earn a base of 500 EQMs for flights under 500 miles. Denver to Philadelphia is 1500 miles about and the flights sit around 170 dollars. To make status using this example you would have to fly this 18 times round trip. That’s $3060 spend and 54,000 miles, but on flight 15 you would earn status because you would have made the 30 elite qualifying segments. In reality you only need to spend around $2500 by doing it this way.
United Airlines, which is the last one in this comparison. They have silver, gold, platinum and 1k. All of their levels in this screenshot are reduced by 50% because of corona so in reality you need 12 flights and 4000 points or 5000 points. What does that mean though? Well really each dollar you spend on flights is worth one point, so you need to spend $4000 to reach the base status with United. You can also get a united credit card and get bags checked free, along with better boarding and a way to spend money to get status.
