Papua New Guinea remains one of the world's most dangerous countries for women and girls. Over two thirds of women in the country have endured gender-based violence during their life time. Furthermore, at least 400 cases of sorcery accusation occur in the country each year. In 2022, the Government of Papua New Guinea elevated its commitment to tackle these issues by establishing the Permanent Parliamentary Committee on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment. The committee is supported by the UNDP through the "Strengthening PNG's Parliament" project, which is generously supported by the Australian Government. Watch this video to learn about the main achievements of the committee in 2023!
