“Email to Gebirtig“ is the second part of a trilogy of creative documentaries shot entirely in the Yiddish language. It's set in Kraków's old Jewish district Kazimierz, a unique quarter of Jewish culture, and is dedicated to the Yiddish poet and songwriter Mordechai Gebirtig who was born in Kazimierz in 1877 and killed by Germans in 1942. “The Brecht of Kazimierz“ (Jacek Cygan) wrote about 90 folksongs, which are sung until today (e.g. “es brent“, “kinder-yorn“, “blayb gezunt mir, Kroke“). Artists well-known worldwide perform in the film to save the poetic and musical legacy of Gebirtig. The artists as well as elder and younger Cracovian Yiddish speakers show him the modern times and the magic neighborhood of Kazimierz with all its contradictions - as a message to Gebirtig.
