Some of my favorite off-the-beaten path #pueblosmágicos in Mexico:
Real de Catorce: A former silver mining town located in the state of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, this town is off the beaten path because you have to take turns driving through a literal tunnel to get there. It's everything you'd think the Old Mexican West should be.
Orizaba: Orizaba is a town situated at the base of Pico de Orizaba and nestled among lush hills. The outdoor river walk is free for all, and features dozens of zoo animals. The city also features lovely colonial architecture and murals.
Bacalar: Bacalar is a small, laid back town known for its stunning lagoon, known as the "Lake of Seven Colors." Bacalar is a popular destination for nature lovers, offering activities such as sunbathing, swimming, kayaking, and sailing in the lagoon.
Tequila: Tequila is a town in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, famous for the renowned Mexican spirit, tequila. The town is surrounded by fields of blue agave, the plant from which tequila is derived. Tequila is a UNESCO World Heritage site and attracts visitors with its tequila distilleries, where you can learn about the production process and sample different types of tequila.
Tequisquiapan: Tequisquiapan is a charming colonial town located in the state of Queretaro, Mexico. It is known for its well-preserved historic center and colorful buildings — and the town is also surrounded by vineyards, making it an excellent destination for wine enthusiasts.
Palenque: Palenque is an ancient Mayan jungle city located in the state of Chiapas, Mexico. It is renowned for its impressive archaeological site and its number of nearby waterfalls.
