As we celebrate two years of marriage I figured it was time to share this beautiful moment of our lives. We had a wedding week in Miami then we went down to Palm Beach for our Welcome Party, our Wedding and our mini Vacation.
Our goal for our wedding was to make sure we supported as many black and minority-owned businesses. This was a challenge since we had chosen the Breakers in West Palm Beach and they have a list of vendors that you must choose from. With the help of our wedding planner Ohnikioccasions on IG we were able to secure vendors that we truly wanted to work with and support.
The first vendor we secured was our Wedding planner, hubby was NOT on board he thought he could plan everything himself LOL, he soon realized hiring her was the best thing we could have done. He said looking back now none of our wedding would have looked or felt they way it did without her. She was worth every dime.
Next, we found our photographer and videographer, this was fairly easy since I already knew who I wanted I just had to make sure hubby was onboard and that they were available.
Next, we found the venue which was going to be the Hanover Grange in Jamaica, we put down a deposit, and within 30 days I realized I did NOT want a Caribbean wedding. I was then tasked with finding a new venue with our wedding 13 months out... I researched and found the BREAKERS and fell in love!!! We walked away from our 5k deposit not knowing if we would get it back. This was hard to do, but I am glad we did it. In the end, our wedding planner got us most of it back.
I then focused on finding a dress, I looked around Los Angeles but nothing fit my curves, so we booked a trip to New York so I could go to Klienfeld and hopefully say yes to the dress and we had 11 months until the wedding and guess what??? I found nothing. I went back to researching and found that a custom wedding dress designer from Dallas who had done tons of celebrity dresses was going to be in LA for a pop-up shop in June. I put down the deposit to see her and walked into the pop-up with one budget and left out with a custom dress that did not exist that she was going to make from scratch and 5k over budget!!!! We were 10 months from our wedding date and 8 months from the due date of when the dress would be needed by, but luckily she did not charge me a rush fee.
Going over budget on the dress and losing our deposit at the Hanover venue meant I would have to cut back on decor for the wedding but I felt it was worth it.
Now I had to find hair and makeup with 10 months to go. I wanted a wig for myself and a uniform look for my bridesmaids. I looked for a while and with 9 months left I finally secured my hair person who would create me a custom wig and would do my 11 bridesmaids' hair and do all of our makeup. best part was they threw in a trial for hair and makeup, so 3 months before the wedding I flew out to Miami to try out the hair and makeup. Since I was already there we headed down to the Breakers in West Palm Beach for a Taste Test of all the food and wines. We also met our videographer in person so they could see the venue as well, and we did a viewing mock-up of the design and decorations. Lastly, we got to stay in the bedroom suite during ur stay so we could try that out as well.
By month 8 finalized my bridesmaid's dresses, the barber for the groomsmen, the transportation from our co-ed bachelor week in Miami to West Palm Beach for us, and or wedding party of 22 people.
By month 7 we had picked the floral vendor and the final ideas and the Stationary Vendor. By this time ALL of our vendors were black-owned, or women-owned and we were happy.
For design, we had to use the Breakers in-house team and they worked with our wedding planner to bring our wedding to life.
Our wedding was one we will NEVER forget. All details for Vendors will be below I hope you enjoyed sharing this moment with us.
