Hidden Features & Changes in Android 12 Developer Preview 1:
- One-handed mode review and how to activate on Android 12.
- Tapping the empty space of the media controls launch the media output controls.
- The ability to change media output device from the lock screen without unlocking the phone.
- WhatsApp notifications on lock screen are smaller in Android 12 and don’t show the messages count.
- Setting a conversation as priority gives an orange animation around the app icon and the notification shade won't be dismissed.
- Priority conversation’s profile picture no longer disappear from status bar after replying to messages from notifications shade.
- Reduce Bright colors has a toggle in the quick settings.
- Ability to reset notification importance from developer options.
- In bubbles the app icon change position based on the docking side.
- Recent bubbles card is much smaller in Android 12 compared to Android 11.
- In bubbles if the conversation is set to priority the app icon no longer shows the orange ring and the app icon is bigger.
- App actions shortcuts menu now shows in the centre instead of being shifted to the sides.
- Haptic feedback in app drawer while scrolling using the scroll bar.
- Single swipe up in full screen mode will go to the home screen.
- Recent apps screen animation is softer.
- You can now go in and out of the recent apps screen by tapping and holding on the navigation bar and swipe up or down, instead of 2 different swipes link in Android 11.
- Accessibility magnification feature has a floating window to magnify certain areas of the screen.
- Ability to hide display cutout.
- When phone’s connected to PC there's a new toggle called “Transcode exported media” under USB settings.
What to Expect in Android’s 12 Future Builds?
- Android 12 DP1 preps a Conversations widget, but it isn’t ready yet.
- Android 12 may add Smarter Autorotation, a Gaming Mode, and a Reduce Bright Colors feature.
- Android 12 may revamp split screen multitasking with “App Pairs”.
- Google may get rid of the half-swipe notification panel gesture in Android 12.
- Android 12 tests “Automatic” sound status for notifications.
- Android 12 prepares double-tap back gesture for the Pixel 5.
- Android 12 brings pinch-to-resize and stashing for picture-in-picture windows.
- Android 12’s new swipe-down gesture lets you quickly access notification shade from any screen.
