The price of the Nest Smoke Detectors can be found on Amazon, which is where I purchased them using the link: [ Ссылка ] or you can purchase the Battery model using the link: [ Ссылка ]
Here is how I wired the smoke detectors:
0:01 - How I brought wire up to the upstairs hallway
0:25 - Identifying a good spot in the upstairs hallway to mount detector (between trusses) (see special note on mounting location)
1:53 - Tracing out where the old work electrical box will be installed
2:30 - How to Cut Out the Drywall for the old work electrical box
2:58 - Fitting the old Work Electrical Box
3:04 - Tracing out for the tabs on the electrical box and cutting out the drywall so the box will fit flush
3:23 - Loosening up the tabs so that you will be able to successfully secure the tabs when the electrical box is mounted.
5:18 - Wiring up the electrical box (the power wire fed from the downstairs electrical box and the two feeders for two additional smoke & carbon monoxide detectors)
5:42 - pushing the wires back up into the ceiling and securing the box (Note: you will need to properly route the wiring and secure it per NEC guidelines every 4 feet and within 12 inches of entering an electrical box).
6:17 - Securing the electrical box
7:08 - Tying the ground wires together (the Ground wires are not needed for the Nest Smoke Detector)
7:22 - Combining the red wires together (the red wires are not needed for the Nest Smoke Detector)
8:22 - Combining the neutral wires together with a pig tail
9:01 - Combining the hot wires together with a pig tail
9:45 - Unboxing the Nest Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector
10:56 - Installing the mounting bracket
11:06 - Installing the Nest Power Connector
11:43 - Powering up the Nest Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector and adding it to the Nest Protect app
13:31 - Explaining how power was routed from the downstairs hallway
14:04 - Connecting the upper hallway power wire to the downstairs hallway smoke detector electrical box
19:43 - Securing the wire within 12 inches of the electrical box using a wire clip
20:00 - Reinstalling the Roxul Safe n Sound Fire Block
Note: when installing the smoke detector in a room be sure that it is outside of the dead zone. The dead zone is within 12 inches of any wall or ceiling. The smoke detector may be mounted on the ceiling or it may be mounted on the wall. If it is mounted on the ceiling make sure it is mounted at a distance greater than 12" from any adjacent wall. The smoke detector may be mounted on hte ceiling but make sure that it is mounted at a distance greater than 12" from the ceiling but not too low that it is not effective. Follow your local ordinances for the mounting location.
Our home was built in 1970 and it is not required to have wired smoke detectors unless a complete remodel is performed. However, I am not a huge fan of battery only smoke detectors so I decided to install Nest Smoke / Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detectors throughout the house: 1) Master Bedroom, 2) Office, 3) Upstairs Hallway, 4) Downstairs Hallway, 5) Downstairs Bedroom and 6) Music Studio.
It is best that the smoke detector be wired on its own dedicated breaker.
I am a big fan of the Nest Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors. We had one event but it was due to a tray of cookies burning in the oven. The smoke detector sounded within a minute of the smoke entering the hallway.
Warning: Disconnect power prior to working on this as serious injury or death or property damage could occur. It is best to have the wiring on a dedicated breaker for the smoke detector.
