Kimberley Kitching’s husband Andrew Landeryou has broken his silence on the allegations the late senator was treated poorly by colleagues during her time in parliament.
Penny Wong, along with colleagues Kristina Keneally and Katy Gallagher, were accused of being “mean girls” and later refuted the claims in a joint statement.
Mr Landeryou said he felt it was important to focus on forgiveness.
“The most important thing I can do to sort of honour Kimberley’s legacy and her memory is to act in the classy way that she acted, which is not necessarily my first instinct unfortunately,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
“I think it’s important to try and focus on the good things.”
Mr Landeryou added that he listened to the condolence motion for Ms Kitching’s passing last March, including the speech of the now Finance Minister Katy Gallagher.
“Katy Gallagher got up and spoke beautifully,” he said.
“I sat there and I listened to those words and I realised that was probably as close to an apology that a public official in that situation could make and I really, really respected it and it resonated with me and sort of helped me a bit.”
