Created by Melbourne duo Josh and George after a long drive home discussing life, travel, music and film. They decided the only way to enjoy them all was to combine them all.
They created a duo called ‘Drifters Fiesta’ and created The Buskers Guide
The Buskers Guide is ever expanding travel blog with Vlog diary entries documenting the travels of a pair of nomadic musicians busking and filming their way around the world to compile all their learnings, experiences, tips, tricks and hacks for a resource for the budget backpacking creative traveller; ‘The Buskers Guide’
Join us as we busk, barter and banter our way from town to city to country, filming all of our experiences along the way. A comprehensive travel guide on all the places we visit, The Buskers Guide will fill you in on the best places to eat and sleep on a budget, as well as tips on things to do, good busking spots, open-mic nights and cheap ways to get around – basically, anything that might be of interest to fellow drifters, backpackers, travelling artists and broke-arse musicians like us!
The aim of this project is to provide travel tips, spread the word and provide new pathways for local and traveling musicians, street performers, bands and artists. We want to start a conversation that will inspire people – whether it’s to strap on a pair boots and go off exploring the world, to go to some gigs, getting involved in the arts scene or even working up the courage to have a busk yourself.
We will be playing and filming live gigs, recording songs, taking photos, interviewing other buskers, travellers and locals – in other words, putting ourselves out there as much as we can. Of course, we won’t always be able to find out everything about every area – and this is where you come in. If you know any travel tips, tricks or secrets, or have even just heard whispers, give us the low-down and we’ll try our best to follow it up.
To fund our exploits, we’ll be hitting the streets and getting by any way we can – busking, playing gigs and open-mic nights, doing film and photography, bartering, hosting wet T-shirt competitions and doing anything and everything short of selling our bodies. (... Maybe.)
That said, we’re not going around with dollar signs in our eyes. We have made videos for cafes, hostels and tour groups in exchange for free food or accommodation, and will happily trade our time for just about anything – so come and get your barter on!
The Buskers Guide is a very new project, but one that is quickly gaining momentum. But it’s not all about us! We’re always happy to pay it forward and help a brother or sister out, too – so if you are an independent musician and want to get your stuff out there, send it to us and we’ll play it on the show with a credit and link to your page.
If you see us on the streets and want to share your travel stories and tips with us, show us around, offer us a couch to crash on, play a show, make a video or plug in and busk with us, we’d love to hear from you!
