The measles epidemic in Samoa has continued to spread, despite a two-day government shutdown for a mass immunisation effort. The government said its vaccination campaign has been hindered by anti-vaxxers spreading conspiracy theories.
Samoa's measles immunisation rate stands at about 30%, while the global standard is 90%. The South Pacific island nation declared a national emergency in November and ordered all 200,000 people there to be vaccinated.
