Many of us will realize the value of self-control only when we reap the painful consequences of our wrong desires and weakness. Yet our mind often resist the idea of self-control because it demands discipline. Remember, we must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons. Therefore let us practice the discipline of self-control and make ourselves strong so that we will not fall prey to delusive temptations. Above all, self-control is absolutely necessary to overcome all kinds of difficulties, both in worldly life and in spiritual life!
About Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri:
Swami Sri Yukteswar (1855 - 1936) was a Self-realized yogi and kriya master. He attained the spiritual stature of a Jnanavatar, or incarnation of wisdom.
Swami Sri Yukteswar was the guru of Sri Paramahansa Yogananda and Satyananda Giri.
The Holy Science is a book written by Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri in 1894 under the title 'Kaivalya Darsanam'. Sri Yukteswar states that he wrote The Holy Science at the request of Mahavatar Babaji. The book compares parallel passages from the Bible and Upanishads in order to show the unity of all religions.
Paramahansa Yogananda described Sri Yukteswar as, "Softer than the flower, where kindness is concerned; stronger than the thunder, where principles are at stake."
