Speaking at Applications of Gene Editing 2023, Kyler Roy, from the Imperial College Center for Synthetic Biology, presented his talk on the use of CRISPRai in chemical bioproduction.
In his talk, Kyler discussed using metabolic engineering to upcycle waste into valuable chemicals like pharmaceuticals and biofuels. He highlighted the efficacy of multiplexed CRISPR activation and inhibition (CRISPRai) for optimizing production while minimizing by-products. Kyler presented advancements in developing an inducible CRISPRai toolkit, showcasing its ability to enhance succinic acid bioproduction by 45-fold in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. He also discussed potential applications in biosensors and understanding genotype-to-phenotype relationships.
