For the majority of people, medications will be required so that seizure control will be established with a low dose of medicine. However, for other patients, epilepsy is not so easy to control and depending on the type of epilepsy they have, they may go on to have a seizure every year or every couple of years - enough to be very inconvenient. Some people may go on to have a condition that is far more serious in that it affects them all the time. For a neurologist, the main aim is to
try and work out what type of epilepsy an individual has and what the future is likely to hold for them.
