‘Iya Kaye Hajaari’ is a folk melody sung in Halbi that celebrates a special tradition in Bastar called ‘Meet Bandhana’ where kinship transcends blood ties. This tradition is about forming lifelong bonds even if you are not related by blood. In this ritual, people exchange flowers or gifts, symbolizing the start of a profound connection, and from then on, they call each other by the name of that flower. This tradition knows no bounds of gender or creed.
The Hindi lyrics remind us that we’re all kin; we live under the same sky and breathe the same air. It tells us that relationships go beyond religion or boundaries and it’s all about the sacred connection that binds us together.
