Open G Tuning - G Major Scale All the Chords in G - Guitar Tutorial
A lot of times when you get started with open G a lot of tutorials and information point towards how to play slide, the G chord, the C and the and how to basically play a I-IV-V using these barre chords. The barre chords are great if you want to just play some basic blues or Americana but after that the amount of information out there for people to explore this tuning is very limited. There is so much more you can do with it. The fingerpicking potentials are tremendous, the extended chords are beautiful, the ability to mix the scale and chords is also something that really wants to be explored, so where do you start?
The major scale. The first place to start is learning the major scale and then after that learning to harmonize the major scale with all the chords in the key of G, G, Am, Bm, C, D, Em and we will throw in the F just in case you want to mess around with the Mixolydian as well.
This lesson will get you started, make your own licks, write chord progressions, practice songs you know and once you feel more confident in the next lesson we will talk about how to make a beautiful fingerpicking piece and mix all these things together in a way that is both fun to play, sounds lovely and brings out the flavor of this tuning.
