Lord Shiva is one of the towering entities in Hinduism. Where Lord Brahma is the creator and Vishnu is the protector of the universe, Lord Shiva is the destroyer. The destruction here refers to the metaphor for destruction of negative human traits, imperfections and illusions of this material world. Shiva's destruction makes the way for creation and the cycle continues. Lord Shiva has incarnated several times to serve multiple purposes.
