A second officer who had been injured as a result of the attack on the Capitol has died by suicide, Acting Police Chief Robert Contee for the Metropolitan Police Department announced during a Wednesday afternoon press conference.
"That was a very sad and tragic situation for us," Contee began with. "The officer is Officer Jeffrey Smith, he was a Second District Officer."
Smith was one of the officers who responded to the Capitol on Jan. 6, the acting police chief explained.
