Part of his series of magnificent paintings inspired by the city of Venice, [Concetto spaziale] (1961) is a rare masterpiece that evokes a striking aerial vision of Venice’s lagoon portrayed in ivory and gold.
The artist used both palette knives and his fingers to create the grooves and furrows in the thick paint, creating a surface that is almost closer to sculpture than painting.
