A very special live performance from one of Melbourne's amazing bands Zulya and The Children of the Underground as a quartet. They perform exquisite original music inspired by Zulya’s Tatar and Russian roots. Zulya’s music defies being labeled, but has been described as “Kurt Weillish, Euro-Cabaret jazz [collides with] lullabies constructed to tear your heart out.” Sixteen years, four albums, two ARIA nominations and one ARIA award after their formation, they present transformative concert music that is haunting and nuanced, with Zulya’s smouldering vocals supported and enriched by accordion, clarinet, guitar, double bass and percussion. For this online concert they will be drawing from a new repertoire of old Tatar songs that influenced Zulya as an artist and a singer.
Performance date: 14 November 2020
Featuring:
Zulya Kamalova: Vocals and acoustic guitar
Anthony Schulz: Accordion
Andrew Tanner: Double bass
Lucas Michailidis: Electric guitar
