Our One Good Ride Series explores the area's 150+ mountain bike trails one by one. In the second installment we bring you the Lower Loop, a popular trail featuring mellow singletrack and jaw-dropping views. It is 2.8 miles and rated easy. You can access it by taking Butte Road to Peanut Mine. This option is good for riders who are still getting comfortable on singletrack. Other options include following Butte Road up a trail to the left that connects to some singletrack that parallels Peanut Mine and eventually connects to the official start of Lower Loop. You can also take Old Kebler Road to Kebler Pass, which eventually intersects with Lower Loop.
The mountain biking in Crested Butte and the Gunnison Valley is unparalleled. The vast trail system features 150-plus trails spanning over 750 miles, and includes mellow rides for beginners as well as the gnarliest, most adventurous singletrack you'll ever encounter.
