Word Mapping, is the process of linking phonemes to graphemes and is an excellent instructional strategy that allows students to focus on phonemes in words and align them to speech sounds. This process will allow students to cement the spelling of words they practice, and anchor them in their brains as accurate letter sequences, which in turn will allow the words to be added into their orthographic lexicon (their sight vocabulary).
In this video we are going to focus on Word Mapping high frequency words and phonics-focused words. This instructional practice aligns with the research behind the Science of Reading and is extremely easy to do with your students in either small groups or whole group as well.
So, are you ready to implement Word Mapping into your instructional practices to align with the Science of Reading? If so, this Word Mapping video is for you!
This is a great strategy for mapping heart words and mapping sight words as well!
