Blue velvet cake? There's nothing different about blue velvet cake except it's color which isn't traditional to the popular Red Velvet Cake. Many people are not aware that a velvet cake is simply a lightly chocolate flavored cake that utilizes cooking oil instead of butter, which makes this cake extremely moist. Color does not effect the flavor of the cake, it's only for a different presentation and something different from the common red color found.
This cake is perfect for beginners if followed correctly. The frosting used is a buttercream frosting which isn't difficult to prepare either.

Ingredients (please watch the entire video to know the order of mixing):
½ cup Crisco
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs
1 ounce royal blue gel paste food color
2 drops violet gel paste food color
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 scant teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon vinegar
