*THEN* - @TearsForFearsOfficial released their number one 80s music hit single “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” in 1985 when co-founders and co-lead vocalists Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith were both only 23 years old. *NOW* - both Orzabal and Smith are 62 years old in 2023. *THEN* - They had two #1 hits - “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and “Shout.” *NOW* – Tears for Fears released their seventh album “The Tipping Point” in 2022. *THEN* - Teen angst inspired the name Tears for Fears which came from psychologist Arthur Janov's work on primal scream therapy. *NOW* - "The Tipping Point" is the work of middle-aged survivors influenced by therapy and loss, including the loss of Orzabal's wife of 35 years in 2017. *THEN* – The original main lyric was “everybody wants to go to war” before being changed to “everybody wants to rule the world”. *NOW* – Orzabal and Smith were born 2 months apart in England in 1961 and they have remained friends since their early teens.

*THEN* - 1984 - “Shout” and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” were from their 2nd album “Songs from the Big Chair”. *NOW* - Orzabal and Smith co-founded the band 42 years ago in 1981. *THEN* Shout was meant to inspire people to protest and to let out “things I can do without.” *NOW* - Band split in 1991 due to creative and personal differences, so Orzabal led Tears for Fears without Smith releasing 2 albums. Orzabal and Smith reunited in 2000 after not speaking for 9 years. *THEN* - They have sold over 30 million albums worldwide. *NOW* - They're still rocking their world tour that kicked off in 2022 and ends November 2023.
