In the late 80's I saw this 1978 published book sitting around the office of A Stamp in the Hand Co. where I was working at the time. I later came across a copy of it at a used bookstore in the early 2000's when I was browsing the shelves. There's a lot of information in the book about the history of rubber stamps going back to the processing of rubber. 1978 was very early in the rubber stamping as and art/craft hobby/medium and they have a lot of examples of how stamps were typically used at the time. I was surprised to see how concise this book was and all of the sources listed for things like sellers and manufacturers as there wouldn't have been dedicated art stamp stores at that time and finding that information couldn't have been very easy. Rubberstampmadness was already being published at that time so maybe that's where a lot of that type of information came from. That photograph of Leavenworth Jackson sitting in a bathtub full of stamps always cracked me up.
