This Omega Seamaster 300M Diver 60 Years of James Bond Edition in Canopus gold is all about grand celebration, while the steel version, which was released recently, paid tribute to various Omega watches worn by James Bond, particularly the first wave-dial Seamaster worn by Pierce Brosnan and the tenure-ending No Time To Die Edition Seamaster worn by Daniel Craig.
It is certainly has more bling and deviates from its steel sibling with a Canopus (white) gold case. But the foundation is effectively the same as the steel model: 42mm case, 49.9mm lug-to-lug, with a tad more thickness likely due to the diamond-set bezel at 15.3mm thick. It retains the expected 300-metre depth rating, and has the contentious Reese’s cup-shaped helium escape valve at the 10′ position.
The most striking visual point of difference from the steel model is the deviation from an aluminium bezel to diamond-set bezel. Treated in various green and yellow hues, the bezel is set with a gradient of diamonds – with the triangular pip of the timing bezel formed by two untreated cut diamonds.
Ultimately, this offering is less about Bond cosplay or tribute, at least on the surface, than other recent Bond editions. The vibe I get is that this is the glamorous James Bond Edition that, ironically, could be the Seamaster the Bond villain wears in a movie – sitting in their castle petting their cat. It’s surely not within everyone’s budget or taste, but it is a special and handsome creation that is there for those that want a Seamaster that takes things to a whole other level.
