Somewhere in the remnants of a nearby supernova explosion is potentially a BRAND NEW kind of star. If the "quark star" is verified, it might provide new light on the very beginnings of our cosmos.
Either a black hole or a dense remnant termed a neutron star is left behind after a supernova explodes. New calculations, however, point to a third possibility: the formation of a quark star, which occurs when the pressure is just shy of generating a black hole.
