In the late 19th century, and throughout the 20th century, professional sport emerged in London, offering people a way out of poverty, and a means of integration for migrant communities.
Boxing, in particular, could turn someone into a sporting hero, and for immigrants it was a way of gaining acceptance among the wider population and overcoming racism.
This film shares the careers and personal stories of East London ex-boxers through interviews to former boxers and their families.
This film was part of the exhibition East End Boxing Lives (January to April 2011) at Hackney Museum following a yearlong project undertaken by the London ex Boxers Association.
