Last year we've seen the release of Ouya and Gamestick. At the same time other companies are creating Android based consoles as well, trying to get a piece of the pie. But is there even a pie to share? Here are five good reasons why Android consoles are bound to fail.

1. Tablets

Sales for personal computers are in decline year over year. Laptops and tablets are the rising stars. Especially tablets are gaining more market share every quarter. I mean, fifty million tablets are being shipped to stores every quarter. And for all those tablets we can find games that can be awesome to play and attract a young and casual or older and hardcore audience for all kinds of reasons. We've already got tablet, we don't need Android consoles.

2. Quality Issues

Robert paid good money on Kickstarter to support Ouya and Gamestick. But still these consoles have lots of issues with input lag, crappy interfaces and controllers that have difficulty to connect to the console. There are some quality issues there that you will never see with products from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.

3. Games

Even though we love to kick grizzly bears' asses in Fists of Awesome or hunt each other in Towerfall, these type of games don't measure up to the quality of downloadable titles like Brothers, Fez or Super Meat Boy. If you don't mind the simpler games, sure Android consoles are fine as they are. But do NOT expect complex 3D games!

4. Price

Games for these Android consoles are not particularly expensive. Invest a few dollars and you can get an okay game. A bigger issues is the price of the console. Ouya and Gamestick cost little bit less then one hundred dollars. For almost the same amount of money you can get a Nintendo Wii with AWESOME games ranging from Super Smash Bros and Mario Galaxy to Madworld, Zack & Wiki and Muramasa The Demon Blade.

5. Android

One of the bigger issues we have with Android consoles is the operating system itself. Android is HUGE on smart phones and tablets. Google is now trying to make their software work on televisions and it's reportedly working on its own console. We wanna bet this console will be build in televisions and can use Google's own but preferable any Bluetooth enabled or USB controller. You see, we don't need Android consoles. They are kind of useless.
