The use of nitrous oxide or more commonly known as laughing gas has become one of the the 10 most used recreational drugs nowadays. Its use has reached such an extent that New York has prohibited the sale of whipped cream containers to those under 21 years of age precisely to prevent them from taking drugs. But why the cans of whipped cream? These small containers contain nitrous oxide and are marketed to be able to connect to a dispenser of whipped cream. What users of nitrous oxide as a recreational drug do is empty these containers inside balloons to then inhale the gas. In fact, a new term has been coined to designate this fashion “whippers”. Nitrous oxide is a very common element used in dentistry and medicine, in fact, it was one of the first anesthetics used in dentistry. To be able to administer it you must be a doctor or a dentist and also have a special certificate. This gas can produce analgesia, dizziness, euphoria, drowsiness, etc. Therefore, its use without control can cause serious health problems.
