From T-bars to the exposed High Noon Express & the impressive towers of the Sky Waka, all the lifts at Tūroa and Whakapapa are hit hard by New Zealand's extreme Southern weather.
During the lengthy storm cycles we've recently been hammered by, we managed to get an often unseen look into what it takes to get all our lifts turning.
The lift ops and de-icing teams at Mt Ruapehu work incredibly hard during and after storms to clear immense build ups of ice, coming back day after day to bash away at the same spots.
The goal; smiling skiers being whisked away uphill. The maunga we ski & ride on is a unique place, an extreme place, but it's a magnificent spot to enjoy the snow when the storms clear.
