See Strokkur Geyser Iceland eruption
Our vacation sighting magazine channel video of the week is via Rickus Groenewald, founder of [ Ссылка ] of the geyser in Strokkur, Reykjavík in Iceland. It is found alongside the Hvítá River within Iceland’s Golden Circle, and near Thingvellir National Park a World Heritage Site. The Golden Circle is the most famous of all scenic routes in Iceland
Just below the arctic circle Iceland's landscape is wild, rugged and colorful, perhaps even sometimes moody. Hence also called the land of frost and fire.
Striking to any eye with black lava, red sulphur, hot blue geysers, grey / white rivers with their waterfalls and green valleys. I mean come on, it is any photographer's dream!

Geological contrasts are most visible in the south of Iceland. From Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital it's 30-40 minutes to the westside of South Iceland and the Golden Circle. According to Iceland Tourism, “Geothermal activity is high in the southwest of Iceland and especially in the Golden Circle Area where it powers the garden of Iceland. With 126.000 m3 and more than 66% percent of the national greenhouse acreage, the South is the area of Iceland that produces the most vegetables in the country.”
Strokkur Geyser is a popular attraction which sends a blast of steaming water through explosive force approximately every 15 minutes. However nobody really knows exactly when it will next erupt. And the magnitude of the explosion can also vary.
How geysers like this one erupt:
1. Water seeps into a geyser from nearby lakes and rivers. The water at the bottom is heated by magma to a temperature above boiling point. It subsequently changes to steam.
2. The steam rises! It then thrusts this water above it up towards the surface.
3. At this stage more water in the geyser turns to steam. Suddenly the steam expands and thrusts the remaining water out the geyser with tremendous force. Thereafter some of the water seeps back into the earth, and the channel fills again.
Geysers are often compared to volcanoes. And although they erupt there is a strong significant difference. Volcanoes shoot forth melted rock, while a geyser shoots water containing dissolved mineral matter.
An interesting fact is that the word geyser comes from Iceland’s most famous hot spring called Geysir.
Although this is the main attraction there are many other smaller geysers within the Strokkur area of interest. There are many smaller geysers just bubbling above the surface, filled with charm.
Recommended, is to take the trail to the lookout point and get a super panoramic view, where you can also see the plush valley on the opposite side. Generally considered an easy route, depending on fitness levels it takes approximately 38 min to complete. And camping is also an option.
It’s also a good idea to visit Strokkur at sunset for the eruption.
Iceland has more hot springs and sulfur steam areas than any other country.
According to UNESCO, “Þingvellir National Park is located in an active volcanic area, just 49 km east of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, and covers 24,000 ha, of which 9,270 ha constitute the World Heritage property. Its best-defined feature is a major rift, which has produced dramatic fissures and cliffs demonstrating inter-continental drifting in a spectacular and understandable way. The National Park is enclosed by a varied belt of mountains on three sides, featuring grass-covered lava fields, and Lake Þingvallavatn lies at its southern end. This outstanding scenery gives the area its unparalleled value.”
To become a WHS (World Heritage Site) there is a formal nomination procedure and format, and if the area is successful, following inspection and evaluation it is “inscribed” as a WHS for certain listed values.
Þingvellir National Park has remained under the same administration arrangement (the Þingvellir Commission) since it was founded in 1930. Thus, the supervisory duties of the National Park administration and its responsibility for conditions in the Park and its impact area are very strong. The Park administration pursues all possibilities to ensure that the National Park does not deteriorate and that it is run in a sustainable fashion.
