I love GMT watches whether they are flyer GMTs or caller GMTs. I've owned a bunch of them including the Rolex Explorer II, Tudor Black Bay Pro, Seiko SSK001 GMT, and more from Grand Seiko, Zodiac, and Traska. So it's no surprise that the Longines Spirit Zulu Time piqued my interest even at 42mm. Then this year, they released the much anticipated 39mm version of the Spirit Zulu Time with all the same great specs so I knew that I had to get one because it essentially fixed the issues that many folks had with the BB Pro, namely the lack of a rotatable bezel and the thick case.
But then in early December 2023, Hodinkee released their limited edition collaboration with Longines and gave us a titanium Longines Spirit Zulu Time 39 in all of its lightweight grade 5 titanium glory. I jumped at the opportunity and it quickly became my favorite watch. This made me wonder: when will Longines release a regular production titanium Spirit Zulu Time? They answered my question a few days ago with the announcement of an all new 39mm titanium SZT with a ceramic bezel insert and a few other notable changes.
In this video I'm going to get into all the details of the new Titanium Spirit Zulu Time 39 release as a previous owner of the steel black dial SZT and the Hydroconquest GMT but I'll also get into what this new titanium version will be like in terms of it's wearing experience based on owning the actual first titanium SZT for the past 9.5 months that I’m in love with. Finally we’ll look at the two big potential problems: the aesthetics and the price tag which are begging for Tudor comparisons. OH I also mocked up what this watch would look like without the gilt dial which I’m sure some of you are curious about so we’ll look at that as well.
