Ham Radio SOTA: DigiRig needs to loose the weight!
Ham Radio Digital modes
This is the first of 2 videos showing how to reduce the weight of your DigiRig setup by 80% -- without taking the PCB out of its nice aluminium case!
SOTA (Summits on the Air) activations require operator(s) to climb up to a recognised 'summit,' set up their Amateur Radio station and work as many other stations a possible. (well at least 5 to be a valid 'activation.')
Minimising the weight of your rig and its associated antenna, interfaces cables etc is therefore of critical importance -- particularly if you also have a backpack filled with your camping gear for an overnight stay!
As part of my quest to minimise my Portable Station's weight I recently invested in the tiny new DigiRig digital interface to complement my KX2.
The DigiRig itself is tiny and lightweight. Its connecting cables are not!
The cables alone weight more than my Raspberry pi and DigiRig interface together.
This need fixing!
