A drive across the Cambrian Mountains to Aberystwyth on the mid-Wales coast. I'm on a mission to 'Rescue Me Nephew', on this absolutely glorious day - recorded as COVID lockdown began in the UK.
I thoroughly enjoyed driving my 17-year-old Volkswagen Transporter T4 2.5 TDI. The ever-present masculine growl of the 5 cylinders, accompanied by the plaintive cry of the turbo - both indicating their version of the status quo - on this exceptional early summer's day. My apologies for the continuous rattle from stuff in the back. The full trip was 650 miles and she ran flawlessly and classily, returning 40 MPG over a 650-mile round trip. (She's still flying along now, in 2023!)
When things have settled down, a visit to mid-Wales, The Elan Valley and The Reservoirs is well worth it, if you're an outdoors type. Aberystwyth is a charming seaside town with restaurants, bars, two beaches and a chilled, laid-back feel - people still leave their front doors unlocked!
