Cargill Tyson Equestrian proudly presents on behalf of owner “Sandy” aka “Springsure Hill Sandy”. Sandy is a 9yo (13/10/13) 16.2 Registered Australian Stock Horse (out of a warmblood x TB mare by stock horse stallion)Sandy was started as a 3yo and has had basic flat work/dressage training to a good preliminary level, completed 3 stock horse training days, bush riding from property by herself and in a small group. Although Sandy has not yet competed, she has had plenty of exposure and is ready to commence her competition career. At a new place, Sandy can be a little tense at first but settles as the day goes on. Her owner has found her happy to tie at the float, load, travel (although she has only been on a straight load) and easy with or without another horse. Sandy hasn’t done a lot of jumping yet but she has jumped banks, logs and been through creek crossings with no issues. She did do some showjumping at a stock horse training day and really enjoyed it, and was very good. Sandy has even attended Trafalgar camp draft where she stayed in a yard overnight and was ridden around the camp draft arena with around 40 other horses and coped brilliantly!General Handling Sandy has been good to catch, worm, tack up, needle and for the farrier. Although she hasn’t had a body clip yet, she was good having her mane clipped. Current Condition
Sandy has been paddocked alone and with another horse with no issues. She has been in a stable here with us and other than being a little bossy to her neighbours at feed time she’s been great! Before coming to us she was in light work around 2 times a week and has transitioned really well to a more intense workload. She is a generally good doer and isn’t too particular or fussy with her feed. She has no health or soundness issues but does have a scar on pastern from an old fence injury.
Dressage Sandy is happy to maintain a steady rhythm, she is generally more woah than go, she is steady in the contact and doesn’t tend to get strong. She is very balanced to ride, and fairly supple although she could use a little more ribcage bend at times. She has a willing and trainable attitude and seems to be a quick learner!
Rider Suitability
Although Sandy is generally quiet, she can require a little reassurance at times so we feel she is best suited to a confident rider of an intermediate+ level of experience. Alternatively she could be suited to a less experienced rider willing to work regularly with a trainer as they get to know each other. Her current owners are selling her because she is too big for their needs and not really suited to farm/cattle work, they feel she would be better suited to eventing or dressage and they are reducing numbers to be able to travel more. Sandy is fairly flexible with how much work she is in however we would love to see her somewhere where she is fairly consistent work to really kickstart her performance career so she can reach her potential!
