Minister for Social and Family Development Desmond Lee explained how the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) handles reports of child abuse or neglect.
He said MSF undertakes a comprehensive social investigation, and also consults professionals such as psychologists and psychiatrists when needed. He emphasised that MSF's focus is on keeping the family intact, but where the home environment is unsafe, MSF will ensure the child is placed in a safe place.
Minister Desmond Lee spoke in Parliament on 4 September 2019, during the Second Reading of the Children and Young Persons (Amendment) Bill.
