🇪🇺 🇮🇪 Today marks the 50th anniversary of accession to the former European Communities by Ireland and Denmark.
ℹ️ Ireland signed the Treaty of Accession to join the EU, then called the European Economic Community, in 1972 and formally became a member on January 1st, 1973.
🙌During the week, I asked you all what benefits you feel as a result of Ireland's EU membership. Some of the answers included the ability to live and work freely in any Member State, studying abroad through Erasmus+ and improved workers' rights.
☘️The last half century has been transformative and we have forged strong connections and upheld European values such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law, and human rights.
