@mastercam 2022 introduces new capabilities in the Waterline and 3D Blend toolpaths. In this deeper dive, our expert David Ferguson walks through the enhancements to these surfacing toolpaths. Waterline toolpaths create evenly spaced step-downs on the steep surfaces of your part, finishing the main surface but potentially missing critical features such as flat surfaces. New for Waterline toolpaths is the option to find and follow critical depths, varying the spacing of the waterline slightly to ensure perfect engagement of these common features. Critical Depths is one of several options to finish floors and walls quickly and accurately using a waterline toolpath.
3D Blend toolpaths typically require a series of open chains to define the toolpath. With these new enhancements, you can use a point to define one of the chains with no workarounds required. A spiral toolpath strategy is also supported to avoid transition moves and create a clean finish. Optimize Cut Order minimizes rapid travel across multiple surfaces to avoid wasted motion across disconnected faces.
