In 1977, a Russian Pilot Asked An SR-71 Pilot To Bring His Jet In Russia.
On February 6th, 1977, an SR-71 crew was in England to support the celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee. Following the record setting flight from New York to London in 1976, this was to be the first public display of the SR-71, and many people were expected to come and view the aircraft, including Russians. Due to this, all external sensors were removed from the plane. Soon the Russian delegation arrived. The head of the delegation, a former MiG-23 pilot asked the US pilot to "Bring your jet, the SR-71, to the Russian city of Vladivostok as a gesture of peace." The SR-71 pilot calmly replied, "Kindly forward your request to the US State Department, thank you."
