2.4.1: Introduction to Related Products
You have heard of related products, for sure. But, what is confusing is this conversation about related products, upsells and cross-sells. What is what?
Related Products are similar in nature to the product ordered. They can be added to the cart at the same time the main product is added.
Examples:
▪️Makeup should feature brushes.
▪️Generators should have an electrical connection pigtail.
Upsell These are an upsell—better than the product currently viewed. Ultimately, I highly recommend a variety of similar and disimilar products to help catch all visitors to the page.
For our examples:
▪️Makeup should have some nicer options in addition to eye shadow and blush.
▪️Generators should likewise feature models with more horsepower and, perhaps, ones with different fuel types.
Cross-sell These are visible on the cart page. This encourages a customer to add products that will support or enhance the use of a product. This is similar to many brick and mortar stores where, just before checkout, the customer is presented with low-priced accessories.
For our examples:
▪️Makeup should have a makeup bag and small accessories that will augment application.
▪️Generators should have extra oil or an internet gateway to report status.
