Authorities destroyed more than 1 million expired doses of the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine in Nigeria, Wednesday, December 22.
The expired doses were destroyed at a landfill a week after the nation announced it will no longer accept donated vaccines near the end of their shelf life.
Nigeria tests their vaccines before they are used, often voiding the expiration date of the vaccines in the process.
Despite a recent rapid increase in vaccinations, only 2% of the Nigerian population has received both doses so far. (AP)
