These poor nectarines were infected in the field by a fungus called Monilinia fructicola. This fungus loves stone fruit even more than I do, and often gets to them before I can devour them myself. It causes a disease called brown rot. I despise brown rot, and so do the growers of peaches, nectarines, cherries, plums and apricots. It does look cool in time lapse though (8 days, 9 hours).
