Here are rapid reviews of three Metroidvania games I played lately: Yoku's Island Express, Ori and The Blind Forest, and Axiom Verge.
Yoku's Island Express, Ori And The Blind Forest, and Axiom Verge all have their unique spins to the metroidvania formula. Some are more platform based, some wear the Metroid influence on their sleeve, some even incorporate pinball into the gameplay loop.
In these Metroidvania reviews, we'll take a look at these three titles, how they came about, where they do well in, and their shortcomings.
All three of these Metroidvania titles are worth your time if you haven't checked them out. Yoku's Island Express is a bit of an overlooked gem.
