In April 2015, seven young people who had been to a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) for help with their depression came together, with the aim of making a short, animated film about what it is like to suffer from depression as a teenager.
Out of the workshop, 'Facing Shadows' was created: a short, animated film, about their experiences of depression and going to therapy.
'Facing Shadows: Behind the Scenes' shows the making of the film, and what was involved in creating a project like this, including interviews with the team and clips from the film.
See also 'Facing Shadows’, and our companion film, 'Journey through the Shadows', about the experience of being the parent of a child with depression.
The films were made with the support of Lizzy Hobbs, Andy Dunn, Tom Mellor, Valerie Dunn, Mark Simms and the IMPACT-ME research team at the Anna Freud Centre: Nick Midgley, Sally Parkinson, Danny Isaacs and Emily Stapley. The films was funded by the Monument Trust, Health Technologies Assessment and the Beacon Bursary.
