(6 Dec 1976) At the opening of the Socialist Workers' Congress Secretary General Felipe Gonzalez told the delegates they should enter a pact with the other democratic opposition forces, to provide Spain with a democratic constitution after the general election next year. Former West German Chancellor Willy Brandt and former Swedish Prime Minister, Olaf Palme, attended the congress as well as Italian Socialist Pietro Nenni and British Socialist Michael Foot.
